As we apply the final design flourishes in advance of going to print, the island is preparing for Nyepi, the annual day of silence which marks the Balinese New Year.
Mirroring our excitement over the upcoming issue is the palatable energy across Bali on the eve of Nyepi when animated youth parade ogoh-ogohs (paper mache effigies) through the streets mingling celebration and dervish spiritualism, followed by a day of absolute silence – the streets are empty, the airports closed and lights are doused. Nyepi, as both spectacle and observance embodies all that makes Bali such a truly unique destination.
In this issue of Dream Weddings Bali Style we celebrate the spirit of Nyepi with a Royal Wedding complete with pageantry and Balinese ceremony, as Indonesian celebrity Happy Salma marries her Prince Charming.
We explore the magic and romance of Balinese life in “It Takes A Village [to Marry in Bali].
In a quieter mode, though equally spirited, we sit down with Bali’s top wedding designers to learn their tips on transforming wedding dreams into reality, and take a flight of fancy to the heavenly Khayangan Estate featuring the wedding fashions Bali designer of Dinda Rella.
For those seeking honeymoon inspiration we visit Alila’s Uluwatu cliff top hideaway, and for those in search of a distinctive and high-spirited wedding venue we explore Fivelements, an eco-luxe healing sanctuary guaranteed to energize and enrich your Bali nuptials.
Just as Nyepi is to be experienced to be believed, our hope is to inspire within you the desire to realize your own dreams – Bali style.
