Trash The Dress

Deep within the realms of Bali Hinduism lies the notion of Sekala and Niskala – the seen and the unseen. Sekala is the colour, the ceremonies, the vivid green rice paddies, and the elaborate dance, the visuals that make Bali a photographer’s dream. Niskala is the unseen, the intangibles, the mystical spiritual forces behind the pageantry and the rituals. Neither can exist without the other.

In our photography issue we gather some of Bali’s best destination wedding photographers to share both their spectacular imagery as well as unique insights on what makes Bali such a memorable destination to marry.

We also explore the world of Foto Adat, a pre-wedding photography trend where couples, along with friends, dress in traditional Balinese costumes for retro-themed playacting. While on the subject of playacting, in Trash the Dress, some of Bali’s best fashion stylists put a dream wedding dress through its paces with breathtaking results.

Enjoy our awe-inspiring Dream Journal, showcasing an Indian pop art wedding extraordinaire; we go behind the scenes into the planning process to unmask the forces behind this visual spectacular. Be inspired by Vesper and Patrick’s ceremony in the hills of Ubud, with a natural and whimsical theme that made for magnificent photographs. We
reveal the unseen story which is where the magic really started.

Similarly everything is open to interpretation, take Nathan Myers Bucks Night photo stunts – seen – but as we all know somethings are better left unseen! In our Hens Day, divinely decadent cakes inspired by the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party are seen and quickly unseen, as they are instantly devoured.
